Advanced lessons

For players interested in adding to their solo-ing and lead work. I have a theory called the “400 licks theory”.

You’ll learn how music theory can help anchor your scale patterns, chord shapes and well known guitar solo’s - opening up the lick to be used in any key.

You’ll learn how to use the capo as your best friend for learning less and sounding better (without hours of practice).

And i’ll provide recorded videos of each lick learnt on our journey to master the fretboard, so you can slow it down at home and put it into practice after the session - leaving the hour for being shown what to do, and your home practice to get it fit into your hands.

building your guitar toolbox for better songwriting

A songwriter is only as good as the musical toolbox available to them. Even the best lyric writer can struggle to write great songs because their instrument skill lets them down.

We’ll utilise music theory and the capo to write better songs and we’ll take a bunch of shortcuts to make the lesson fun and less overwhelming. As a songwriter you don’t need to know off the top of your head what’s available, i’ll give you charts of how theory works so you can reference them when writing, without having to commit it all to memory.

We’ll also look at some intermediate skills like fingerpicking, palm-muting & passing chords to make your playing a little more colourful.

beginner lessons

It’s never too late to pick up a guitar.

In these sessions we learn our basic chords and practice them into the repertoire you know and love.

Each session comes with one new chord or strumming technique to master to get you growing quickly, and we place that new thing into a song that you love so that practice becomes fun as you sing-along to the songs you’ve grown up listening to.

Sessions come with my beginner digital guitar book with everything you need to know.

New charts (music sheets) are sent via text or email each week depending on the song you’d like to learn.

Book A 60 (Advanced) or 30 (Beginner) Minute Discovery Session

In our discovery session we’ll assess where your guitar playing is currently at and load you up with take home resources to get started on your guitar journey.

You’ll come prepared with a song to play, and i’ll be looking at.

• How your hands works technically.

• What your skill level is.

• What your musical tastes are and how they’ll shape your particular style of playing.

• What bad habits you’ve picked up and a map of how to quickly change them.

• Where your musical skills are at including strumming, rhythm, & musicality.

You’ll then get a walkthrough of the methods I teach and gain an understanding of how we’ll work together in each lesson.

And we’ll finish off the session with a take home book that you can work through at your own pace.

From there you’ll be given an option to book more sessions in, with no obligation to continue if you decide we are not a fit.

Online Sessions Setup :

1. Ensure you have access to a solid wifi connection.

2. Download zoom.

   If you haven’t used zoom for a while, give yourself some time to login before the session and download any updates.

3. Setup your computer screen to join the zoom session.

   The zoom link will be emailed to you on booking confirmation.

4. Setup a second screen (if possible) to read lyrics from / read sheet music on.

I will email or text you materials during the lesson to also read from this device.

If an alternate screen is not available, open a second tab and login in to your email account.

6. Once in the session : go to audio settings (^next to the mute button) and click “original sound for musicians” on.

If we experience issues with zoom we will revert to google meet, face-time, or messenger video.
