How to DIY your first tour.
The reality is , you don’t need to be popular to make money out of music.
But you do need a set of business skills to make music a successful trade.
I like to think that any musician (much like a plumber) can use their skill set to live a life doing what they love. A life where they can manage their mortgage repayments, and pay their rent on time. Put food on the table and have cash (and time) left over to send the kids to footy training every thursday. Afterall, we all know pub musician’s make $100 hour - that’s a pretty excellent rate comparatively to the guy pulling beers at the same pub.
So why do so many musician’s struggle to make the jump from someone playing music in the background at $100/hr to someone getting radio play, festival spots and bums on seats at their ticketed shows.
My theory is, there’s no tafe for an independent musician’s trade.
When you go to tafe as a musician, you learn how to play music. Music Business as a subject lasts one semester and the exam includes having to correctly spell the acronym for APRA and explaining what they do as an organisation. Not very helpful is it ?
This is where my course was born.
Welcome to my Artist Apprenticeship.
Do you struggle to organise yourself ?
Do you struggle with time-management and getting things done ?
Do you wish someone would come in and look after the admin side so you could spend more time making music ?
I’ve helped hundreds of artists develop the business side to their creative dream.
Would you like a shortcut to the boring admin side of music ?
Would you like more gigs ?
Do you need more money to fund your project ?
We can work casually to fit your budget (it’s usually tight for an independent), or book a 3 hour session from time to time if you’d like to get the most bang for your buck while you’re feeling motivated.
You choose the pace we work at.
